The Haywards Heath Music Society was founded in 1941 by Gertrude Lampson with the objective "to promote ...... the presentation of public concerts and recitals". For over 75 years the Society has brought the best of new professional musical talent, plus more established performers, from around the world to Mid Sussex. It provides the very best entertainment to a wide audience, with concerts of different musical genres - classical, choral and jazz.
These have displayed the talents of artists ranging from gifted amateurs, through aspiring young professionals to established names such as Peter Katin, Emma Johnson, Margaret Fingerhut, Steven Osborne, Evelyn Glennie, Freddie Kempff and John Amis. Groups including the Rasumovsky and Coull string quartets, the Haffner Wind Ensemble and The Fairer Sax have also appeared.
An annual event is the Young Musicians' Showcase, which gives the cream of local young performers the opportunity to demonstrate their musical talents in public. Many of these performers have gone on to careers in professional music, including recently Alexis White, Pavlos Carvalho and Caroline Tyler.
Nothing thrills quite like a live performance, and the current season will be no exception. The performers will include top class international pianists, string players, a solo violinist and one of the world's best guitar players. We welcome non-members to our concerts, but there are significant financial advantages in becoming a member, so why not join us!
